Hi everyone!
I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the new year so far! As you can see, I've decided to add a blog to the site so that I can share updates with you on a monthly basis. I have a tendency to think I haven't been doing enough, but when I recount the past few months, I realize I've been really busy! October and November were busy months with the Inktober challenge, the start of a class in Web Development, for which I received my certificate of completion as of January 2, completing a second assignment with Leading Edge Magazine for four illustrations, postcard shipping, updating and creating my shopping sites on YourArtGallery and Redbubble, and receiving a polite rejection email for my entry into this year's Society of Illustrators 60 Annual Competition. Inktober was a lot of fun, and even though there were a couple of days where I had to delay my posts on Instagram, I found that it really got the conceptual thinking going and I really enjoyed working with ink and paper. My posts can be viewed on my Instagram feed, as well as a few selections on the Illustration page. An online course in Web Development through Codecademy was very challenging and a lot of fun. My aim is to be able to merge my visual design skills with coding so that I can build fully functional websites from start to finish. At the very least it has provided me with the ability to more effectively work with people who are dedicated to coding and has given me a better understanding of the needs of clients and incorporating and accounting for accessibility. My next personal project will be to make some tweaks to this site, and also take some of my visual design concepts, code them, and place them on Github, with links to the sites on my Visual Design Page. A second commission from Leading Edge Magazine also kept me pretty busy from mid-October through mid-November. It is always a pleasure to work with Leading Edge Magazine and create illustrations for the fantastic short stories they publish. I can't show you what I worked on yet, but be sure to check out their magazines on Amazon.com. That's it for now! See you next month. Best, Michelle
